Class Descriptions
Intro to Ashtanga
Foundations of yoga philosophy, pranayama, basic postures and meditation.
First Series
A led class comprised of the entire primary series of Ashtanga Yoga.
Second Series
A led class comprised of the entire intermediate series of Ashtanga Yoga. PLEASE NOTE: INSTRUCTOR PERMISSION IS REQUIRED PRIOR TO ATTENDING THIS CLASS. Sorry, but you will be turned away otherwise.
Mysore
Self-paced and independent practice with instructor providing hands-on guidance and attention to special
needs.
Practicing at Near East
1. Please wear loose-fitting and comfortable clothing.
2. It can be helpful to avoid eating or drinking 2 to 4 hours before class.
3. Please avoid strong-smelling deodorant, balms, salves, oils, or lotions.
4. Please arrive prepared to perspire.
5. Please arrive prepared to settle your financial obligations before class begins.
6. If for any reason you’d prefer not to receive any physical adjustments, please let the teacher know.
7. If an adjustment makes you uncomfortable, physically or otherwise, please speak up.
8. Breathe first, move second.
9. Please don’t hurt yourself. When in doubt, back off and refer to number 8 above.
10. Sickness, apathy, doubt, carelessness, laziness, over-indulgence, confusion and inconsistency will arise. For treatment, see number 8.
11. Bad pain: sharp, sudden, stabbing, shooting, or tingling; especially near or at a joint. Please avoid.
12. Sweet pain: soreness, aches, or fatigue; in the belly of a muscle.
13. Helpful relief for both numbers 11 and 12 can include cold showers, ice packs, oil baths, mentholated balms and bodywork.
